Home Sweet Home

Evan & I are now home.  This morning the doctor was in discharging me by 8 a.m.  It took the pediatrician a little bit longer to come in to give the okay for Evan to go home.  We were out by 10:30 which was sooner than I thought.  The staff really are on top of their game when it comes to getting things done.

My camera battery died last week which was perfect timing for the birth of Evan.  Go figure.  Thankfully Chris has a camera that is working.  He's picking up much needed prescriptions and our air conditioner :)  It will be so nice to have A/C if the temp reaches in the 90's again.

Thank you to all who sent us flowers, cards and well wishes.  Also thank you for all your prayers for a healthy baby.  The prayers were answered! Evan could not be more perfect and I had forgotten how much in love you are the minute you meet them.  I have to say after not sleeping for days, I still sit up at night and just marvel at the miracle of new life & how much love is in my heart for him.

We came home to a beautiful bouquet of roses and this sign on the door.  Thank you secret delivery woman :).......Becky??!!!
The sign says "welcome home baby Evan"

The house was also clean & all the laundry done & put away. Thank you Mom & Dad (who entertained Austin while Mom did all the house cleaning). After 4 days on bed rest the house was not looking that great and laundry was piling up fast.

Here's a few pictures of our hospital stay.

Baby is Here!!!!

My days on bed rest are over!  I decided last night the contractions were just getting way to strong for them not to produce some sort of results.  We headed back to the hospital to get checked out.  When I arrived I had dilated to a 5 (the magic number was 4) and that made the staff spring into action.  Within less than 3 hours I was holding our new baby.  The doctor on-call (Dr.  Blake) performed the C-section at Lebanon Hospital.  The staff have been WONDERFUL!  I have nothing but good things to say about everyone involved.  The surgery went well and we both are recovering today on schedule.  Hopefully we'll be able to go home Friday.

35 weeks and counting

Baby update:  So things have changed quickly with my pregnancy. It went from very uneventful with normal doctor visits to now I'm in preterm labor and on bed rest!  My how fast things can change.

Friday night at 11:30 p.m. I drove to the Lebanon hospital to be monitored.  I was 2 3/4 cm dilated and contracting every 15-20 minutes....sometimes sooner.  After 3 attempts by the on call doctor to stop the contractions using medication and a liter of fluid, they sent me home.  My primary doctor's opinion was to lets see if this is true labor and if I progress.  So home I went on "modified" bed rest for the entire weekend.

I'm right on the boarder line of baby being safe to deliver.  At 35 weeks his lungs are still maturing, but I've been told I should be able to deliver at Lebanon hospital without any problems. My concern is that he may need NICU care and if so would be sent to Eugene while I would have to stay in Lebanon recovering from surgery. Please pray for his health and that separation would not be necessary.

My check up this morning showed I'm now at 3 cm, baby's heart rate is fine & I am now on bed rest at home for the duration of the pregnancy.  Which could be a day...or a week.  One thing is for sure baby is not going to wait until my scheduled C-section date of Aug 24th.  The magic number is 4 cm.  Once I am there they will do the C-section and deliver him.  He will be here before we know it!!!

Weekend in Bend

Austin and I headed to Bend Friday morning for a weekend full of fun!  Our first stop was Dandy's.  A local burger drive-in that has been open since my parents were in high school.  The food has such a unique flavor that sometimes nothing else will do.  From there we found another tag along (Isaiah) and headed to the farm.  The boys had a blast!  They had to check out all the gopher holes, watch the cows, play in the irrigation sprinklers, got a first hand look of how to make hamburger (they were just finished cutting up a beef)  & of course got soaking wet in the process.

Give kids a little wide open space, a few sprinklers & some critters and they'll keep themselves busy for hours.

Saturday was my baby shower hosted by Michaela & Becky.  Her house was decorated so cute.  The theme was "cowboy" and they did a great job!  We enjoyed Apple Pie with whipped cream & fresh fruit. Yummy!

Austin checking on Grandpa and Grandma's chickens. He got the biggest kick out of picking them grass and watching them eat the seeds off the end.

Sunday we headed to Redmond to stay a night with Michelle.  The boys played non stop!

Here's Dylan and Austin all dressed up in their hunting outfits.  I think a bear was in sight!

Maggie stopped by & well....she was attacked :)

Our Garden

We've already enjoyed radishes, turnips, lettuce and one zucchini. It has been fun watching all the plants grow....some have gotten a lot bigger than I expected and are crowding out other vegetable plants. I should have never planted my lettuce near the zucchini plant.  It is taking over!

huge radish!

Austin & the tomatoes. They are about the size of a large marble right now.

Ask for a trellis and it appears!  Thanks Chris for making this.  The peas and beans both needed it.

Our Zucchini plant. Below is my lettuce and radishes.  Not a good spot for either one right now.

Pregnancy update Week 33

Today was another doctor's appointment to check on baby Franklin.  I saw a different doctor today (Dr. Park) who questioned me waiting until the 24th of August (3 days before my due date) to have the C-section.  It's really not my decision anyway and there is a chance I could go into labor before the 24th anyway.  We'll cross our fingers :)  He also noted that baby's head is up.  Which Dr. James thought was the butt...he really thinks it's the head.  It would make me feel better if baby was breach and I would have been going through surgery anyway.  In the back of my head I can't help but question if I could just do a VBAC with this one and it would work.  There is no way to predict.  Heart beat is still in the 150's & he's still moving like crazy.  Although I feel a little bad because I guess I'm really poking his head.....not his rear.  Ooops.  Poor kid.  It's really hard and when you poke it he tends to move.  No wonder!

Austin was great at this appointment as always and the Dr. commented on how well behaved he was.  I now know why everyone comments on his behavior because last week I had a terrible experience with a patient and her 3 kids.  They were TERRIBLE!  Crying, screaming, hanging off her and just having fits! If that is what kids usually act like then I'd be a geriatric practioner for sure :)

4th of July 2010

We spent the 4th of July weekend in Newport again this year. Camped Friday night at the Marina and then moved the trailer for 2 more nights to South Beach State Park.  The weekend was full of the normal beach activities and of course fireworks.  Newport had one of the best firework shows we've seen.  Here are a few of the highlights of our weekend.

Climbed a few trees

Road bikes

South Beach State Park even had their own 4th of July parade

Enjoying the afternoon sun

Walked through the Oregon Coast Aquarium
